Mmmm this is one part ranty and one part recommend when we waltzed into a certain high street shop a few days after Christmas we a bit miffed to see a shiny spangly display for Valentine’s card. The alacrity, the alarming freaking alacrity at which the retail industry moves is a bit cynical it’s like the regular calendar runs for 12 months – and the retail calendar is this
- Jesus is born
- Jesus is born sale
- Jesus is born OMG going into liquidation sale plus valentine’s day tie in
- Valentine’s day – valentine’s day plus leap year engagement tie in
- Jesus is dead let’s eat chocolate eggs!
- Halloween
- Summer Sale
- Let’s start piping the Xmas music mid August so we can celebrate Jesus is born again! Yet!
So, rather than posting these on V Day… because Beyond Beyond the disaffected malcontents, rabble rousers, and general hard cases just want you to celebrate life, love and all that good every day. If you want to eat pigs in blankets at 4am on a Tuesday morning – knock yourself out, it you want to celebrate Christmas on Halloween – do it! If you want to sing NWA songs instead of carols on Xmas day do it… reject all pavlovian conditioning (not fruit pavlova… as in Pavlov and his dawwwwgs)! However Pancake day should be celebrated every day!
