Oh happy day, shutter candy o’clock – a cute couple and it also happens to be hump day, 2 days left until the weekend begins *punches the air* get in!  And the only thing that could make today a bit more perfect is this gorgeous shoot – so let us come together in shutter candy prayer for the lovely and in love couple – everyone say hello to Aurélie and Sylvain, and get ready to adore their DIY fest wedding!

The lovely lady of the lens Elisabeth said: I love to shoot retro-boheme styled weddings; this one was probably the one that looked the more like the one I would dream of for me. Aurélie wore a wonderful 20′s style dress made by “Lili M”, a very talented designer from Reims, France and an absolutely beautiful bouquet of peonies. She also wore great shoes created by Vivienne Westwood. Aurélie created everything herself, that’s why this wedding was so unique and also because her and Sylvain made an awesome couple, that was a real pleasure to photograph them!

So, let ‘s enjoy the pretties… the shutter candy begins! See Some More

We get couple crushes like every day, and it is not like we have fidelity to these crushes it is a like a couple crush orgy in the land Beyond Beyond because we fall in love with pretty much every couple that we feature!

So, we are revisiting one of our favourite couples and we know that with all the pretty overload you might have forgotten but allow us to reintroduce the gorgeous Jeff and Sophie.  Also, you won’t get too many verbal gymnastics from us in this post as Sophie has done a lovely write up about her big, gorgeous, D.I.Y day – so take it aways Mrs.

(Sidebar: We wish there were leftovers the best thing about fusion weddings is fusion food: Frikadeller and Jollof Rice and Hot Wings AND Potato salad that sounds like our kind of  heaven!)

Sophie says:

Jeffrey popped the question in December 2010 and we originally planned to get married in March 2012. However, we had a tight wedding budget and weren’t impressed with what our budget could buy us in London – despite having a wedding guest list of just 57. So, in March, my Mum suggested we get married in my home town of Hull and have the reception in a marquee in the family garden. Initially I was a little sceptical being unsure there would be enough room, but my parents’ next door neighbours offered the use of their garden for drinks, even removing the fence so we could move from one garden to the other. So, we found that the beautiful Hull City Hall was available for our ceremony in August, got information on marquees, arranged to borrow tables, chairs, table linen and crockery from the local Danish church, booked a small local restaurant to provide a buffet and went with it.

Immediately Jeffrey and I decided against a theme – we just didn’t want to tie everything in to a specific colour. However, Jeffrey’s family is Ghanaian and my Mum is Danish so naturally we had to incorporate elements from both of those cultures in to our day. I also spend much of my time sewing, knitting and crocheting so there was also bound to be craft elements to our big day. We saw this injection of craft and bright fabrics as the perfect way to personalise a bland ivory marque.

So, my Mum and I got to making. We made birds out of Ghanaian, British and Danish fabrics which we hung over the tables as decorations and allowed each guest to select one to take away with them as a favour. We also made lengths of bunting, fabric place cards, a kente cloth akwaaba sign (‘welcome’ in Twi), and crocheted sleeves for jam jars and old soufflé pots to hold candles. We grouped clusters of charity shop bought cut glass vases holding home grown multi-coloured garden flowers on the long dining tables for an additional splash of colour.

As for the Ghanaian and Danish cultural elements – some of these were surprises for us. My parents made two large and 50 small (almost enough for one each) traditional Danish wedding hearts with our names and the date painted on to them. Jeffrey and I danced the traditional Danish Wedding Waltz (Brudevalsen) which we danced while our family and friends closed in on us in a circle, eventually pulling Jeffrey away, removing his shoes and cutting the ends of his socks off. And my parents organised a Danish wedding song which involved everyone singing personalised lyrics about Jeffrey and me (titled Sophie and her Man) set to the tune of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine which was unexpectedly accompanied by a good friend on guitar.

We also chose to have the traditional Danish wedding cake of Kransekage – a tower of rings of marzipan and almond cakes decorated with flags which Jeffrey spent an evening making – and a delicious decorative Ghanaian party cake made from peanuts and caramel called nkate cake.

The night was finished off at midnight with Danish and Ghanaian food made by both Mums – Danish pork meatballs (Frikadeller) and potato salad and Ghanaian jollof rice and hot wings. The perfect way to end the perfect day – just what we’d envisaged.

Oh, Navin and Charlotte have made a lovely home in our slightly grizzled, yet warm and fuzzy hearts.  We have seen them here twice over in the land Beyond Beyond, and now the third part of their gorgeous wedding is epic!

It is time to go Indian wedding crazy again, and we loooooooooooooove the en masse dancing.  We tells you, formation dancing in a wedding totally turns our pages!  Vibrant colours and stunning henna design have managed to tug at our visual heart strings.  And as always in spite of the vibrancy, we love that Britt has this knack, that we go on about every time we show her work, of infusing her images with a chilled out and dreamy serene vibe.

So prepare to say awww, gawp, gasp and sigh many times over and if like us you can get enough of Navin and Charlotte, as we are hitting the end of our thrillogy trilogy you can revisit there lovely and loved up faces in une and deux. Let shutter candy begin! See Some More
