Today’s fantabulous D.I.Y project has winged it way over to us courtesy of the lovely, gorgeous and talented Lou of Whimsical Wonderland Weddings – it is a little bit special (and you can see the orginal shoot that these babies were part of here!). It is all about Boutonnieres baby, so get your make on… and of course we hand you over to the Lovely Lou:
Hey Beyond Beyond readers, I’m Lou, the editor over at Whimsical Wonderland Weddings Blog, and I am here today to share with you one of my DIY tutorials from my Spring Inspiration Shoot. I’m really excited to be guest posting for the amazing Amma today….
Boutonnieres are becoming an increasingly popular and fun way to mix up the traditional button hole flower. Not only can they be totally personal but they last forever… ahhhh….. If your man isn’t keen on the floral fabric, try different colours, patterns or fabric type. I hope you enjoy my little tutorial
What you need:
♥ Fabric of your choice
♥ Scissors
♥ Pins
♥ Cotton thread
♥ Safety pin
♥ Twine
♥ Ribbon
Steps:
- Cut two pieces of fabric into a circle and one into a ‘D’ shape.
- Ruffle one piece of the circle fabric and pin into desired shape and pop a couple of stiches in to keep it in place.
- Do the same for the second circle but make it slightly smaller and place on top of the first piece of fabric and sew into place.
- With the ‘D’ shaped fabric, scrunch up the flat end, so it looks a leaf shape and put in a stich to hold its shape. Sew it onto the back of the circles.
- For the middle of the flower, wrap your twine into a flat circular shape and put a couple of stitches through it to hold it in place. Then sew it into the centre of your boutonniere.
- Cut two pieces of different length ribbon, with a slanted end and sew them onto the back of the boutonniere.
- Finally sew on the safety pin to the back of the boutonniere… and you are finished… pin to your man’s lapel and voila
I hope you like the end result, it’s actually pretty simple to do and you don’t need any master sewing skills. The rough edges and fraying all add to the home made look J Much love Lou xoxo
