We Can Make it If We Try | DIY Gilded Giftbox

Today’s tutorial comes to you via ao.com, Caroline Rowland is here to show you how to make these cute DIY Gold Leaf Boxes a perfect way to give  MOB present, or you can use them for your guests:

These gift boxes won’t take that much time at all, and you can then fill them with chocolates, some jewellery or anything else you know they’ll love.

Here’s what you’ll need…

Plain gift boxes (I got mine from Paperchase)

Golf leaf sheets

Gilding paste

Washi tape

Sprigs of Spring flowers

And here’s how it’s done…

You can leave the boxes plain, but I decided to paint one of mine in pale pink. Paint the lid and leave to dry.

Apply gilding paste in a diagonal on one half of the top of your lids. Leave this to dry for 15 minutes.

Now for the trickiest part – handling the gold leaf! It’s so delicate so try to be careful not to tear it. Lay a sheet across where you paste has been applied, and with your fingertip, lightly smooth it out.  If you do tear it, you can always patch it in with small pieces.

Carefully trim the edges of the gold leaf around the lid.

You can keep the boxes simple as they are, or feel free to add pretty gift tags or ribbon, and of course don’t forget to fill with some special  treats!

Today’s tutorial comes to you via ao.com, Carole Poirot is here to show you how to make this lovely floral DIY Vase:

Well, I thought it’d be a great idea to have something that can be added to the table or to a shelf and brings a little bit of (admittedly pretend) Spring to your home.

Now, I’m not somebody who will go completely overboard with pink and flowers, but little touches here and there add just a hint of a feminine touch as long as you steer clear of “Barbie pink”!

Pale pinks work beautifully with off-white and look pretty and grown up. So, if you fancy making this lovely little vase, just follow the simple instructions. Have fun.

Silk flowers, (SIA cherry blossoms)

  1. A small glass bottle
  2. Off white spray paint
  3. Hot glue gun
  4. (not shown) old newspaper

And here’s how it’s done…

Pull the blossoms off the stem – a little tug and they’ll come off.

Take the bottle outside or open all your windows, lay out the newspaper and apply the spray paint in a thin layer. Leave to dry for about 15 minutes before applying a second layer. Leave to dry.

Heat up your glue gun and carefully apply a good dollop of glue to the back of a blossom.

Stick onto the bottle.

Repeat with the other blossoms applying them closely together in a “trail” going around the bottle.

Once all the flowers are glued on, apply another thin layer of spray paint all over the flowers. This will give the flowers a matching look to the vase.

That’s it! A small vase with a really pretty Spring feel.
